Last week I attended a meeting in Clinton, Mississippi with media directors from several state Baptist conventions. We’ve provided video production and web video hosting services for most of them. I’ve known these guys for quite a few years now and it never ceases to amaze me how committed they are to what they do. We discussed topics from video production equipment to social networking to video delivery methods to production processes and techniques. But in the midst of all of the topics we covered, there seemed to be one common thread…how can we be more effective in telling our story?
We all love a good story. I even picked up a few on my trip that I enjoyed telling the guys once I arrived. Some stories are serious and some are light-hearted, but whatever form they take, stories help us connect. They help us feel. They help us care. Whether you volunteer, are on staff at a church, or work for a large ministry organization, you face the same challenges we all do as individuals—you want people to connect with what you do, you want them to care. The best way to do that is not to tell people how great you are, it’s to tell them your story.
We feel that God has called us to use oneMISSION.tv to help you and your ministry tell your own story more effectively. In the weeks ahead, we’re looking forward to bringing you story-telling ideas and tips through this digital ministry blog, oneTHOUGHT. Plus we look forward to hearing your ideas and questions in our new discussion forum. We would really appreciate it if you could help us spread the word about this new community.
And in closing, I’d like to ask for your help. Would you mind responding below, letting us know what aspects of telling your ministry’s story that you’d like some help with? We’ll do our best to address it in our blog or forum very soon.
